Free backup software is not unusual, but free enterprise class backup software is rare!
SEP sesam now offers a free community edition (CE) license for home use and test environments (a non-commercial use license). After registration an email with the community edition license will be sent to you. The CE license works with the standard SEP sesam software available from the download center.
With the CE license you can use the following components:
Backup Data:
- no limits for the front side data
Backup Options:
- 5 x backup clients
- 1 x RDS
- 3 x Streams
- 1 x NDMP
- 1 x NetApp
- 1 x of each supported hypervisors* (except Nutanix AHV) including 5 VMs per hypervisor
- 1 x Level 2 database (PostgreSQL, MSSQL, MySQL)
- 1 x Level 2 application (GroupWise, Kopano, OpenLDAP, IMAP)
- 5 x mailuser
Backend Infrastructure:
- 3 TB storage pool
- 1 TB Si3 deduplication (with replication and source side deduplication)
*Supported hypervisors: VMware (vSphere), Hyper-V, Citrix Hypervisor (XenServer), XCP-ng, Red Hat Virtualization (RHV/RHEV), Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager (OLVM), KVM QEMU, OpenNebula, Proxmox. Note that Nutanix AHV is not included for CE.
No support is included. But if you need technical help there is excellent technical wiki documentation and the SEP seam forum available. When visiting the forum select English or German language in the top right hand corner.
If you decide to use SEP sesam for production or commercial purposes, you can upgrade the Community Edition to a full-fledged and supported license at any time.
